Investigation of the Mysterious Crime Wave (2024-11-30)

Setting the Scene

  • The Bhoover Bureau of Crime (BBC) is struggling with a rise in criminal activity.
  • The local police force is overwhelmed and unable to handle the surge in crime.
  • The increase in crime is mostly drug-related, with a notable rise in murder cases.
  • The BBC believes a new criminal syndicate might be trying to establish itself.

Judy and Jace Join the Investigation

  • Judy, an elf woman with a no-nonsense attitude, is hired as a consultant.
  • Jace, a former detective, reluctantly returns to investigative work.
  • The two are introduced to their contact, a feline sapient in leather named Tila.
  • They are also introduced to Chatrebia and his partner, who will assist with search queries, insurance plates, and obtaining warrants.

First Assignments & Getting Equipped

  • The team is given keys to a black SUV.
  • Tila instructs them to track their work hours to ensure they get paid.
  • A case involving a suspicious car accident is assigned as their first investigation.

The Crime Scene: A Van With No Driver

  • The accident site has no victims, which raises suspicion.
  • Ten people are gathered near the scene, but no police officers are present.
  • The crime scene is taped off, but instead of police tape, someone has used a strip labeled "Plebejan INC Pyjamas and CO."
  • The van is half-parked on the sidewalk with its driver’s door open.

Gathering Initial Clues

  • Judy inspects the scene, starting with a cautious walkaround.
  • Jace turns to the gathered onlookers and asks for witnesses.
 - Three younger men slowly walk away when she speaks.
 - An older woman, Barbara Blanchet, steps forward and admits she set up the tape to prevent people from trampling the scene.
  • Tila appears disinterested but takes a phone call.

Examining the Evidence

  • Judy notes that the blood splatter looks unusual—it has no real substance.
  • She theorizes that it was either cleaned or treated with a chemical to make it visible.
  • She photographs the splatter and collects a sample using a cotton swab.
  • The blood trail leads to a wall, forming a larger pool before continuing into an alley.
  • In the alley, the blood splatter stops, but there are signs someone had been lying in it.

Next Steps

  • Jace remains focused on the onlookers, especially the three men walking away.
  • Judy continues following the blood trail to determine if any further clues exist.
  • The team must decide whether to pursue the fleeing individuals, analyze the blood sample, or investigate other potential witnesses.
